Aquila Restobar
Down in the Junction (Keele st. & Dundas) is Aquila, a tempered Euro-style Bistro at street level and a live stage bar with patio upstairs. Been there on a few occasions and have used the upstairs for a couple private parties. Proprietors Jose / Marcel and their staff are always very friendly and helpful.
Was able to steal the missus away for a date night howl around the hip Junction blocks and Aquila was stop numero Uno. We went all out and ordered Beef Carpaccio, Bruscetta and grilled calamari to warm up - A couple cocktails (Bloody Cesar for Mama and Martini for Bob) to keep it all honest. When it came time for the mains we shifted to a 1/2 litre of red and ordered the peppercorn veal chop and blackened red snapper, both came trimmed with vegetables and potatoe / polenta.
Whilst I really enjoyed the veal, cooked to medium perfection, I was less thrilled with the fish (perhaps I have to revisit my position on 'blackened' things). The place had a healthy level of business that night (it was a Friday) tables at near full capacity. Pleasant atmosphere, good conversation zone - we were sans kids that night but we crossed paths with a family crowd that had the earlier shift.
After settling the bill, we went upstairs to catch a bit of lives blues then moved down to the Hole in Wall Bar for some eclectic Karaoke - Fun night
Price: Approx $100
